NEW MEXICO - DAY 1 & 2

JULY - 2012
( Day 2 )

I guess I was totally pooped from the day before,
because I didn't make it up in time for the sunrise on day 2.

In my parents laundry room, hang's this...
I made this "Key" rack 31 years ago in wood/shop class
in the 8th grade, and they still
use it every day.  So Cool!!

After spending the previous morning on the lake,
Mom and I went and did a little shopping
in the afternoon.  She bought me
this Way Cool purse with a matching wallet.
So love still being spoiled by my Mommy.

We decided on this day, we would spend it
in the nearby town of Tucumcari, and
visit the Dinosaur Museum.
But before heading to the museum, we went
and check out this windmill...
and the Route 66 sculpture.
Then we had lunch.  This building was
across the street from the restaurant.
Love the Mural painted on the side.
Inside the restaurant, was this AMAZING
collection of a Photographer's work.
Just Beautiful and Truly Inspiring.
On the other side of the building above, was
this row of antique trucks.
Love all the colors.
The Mesaland Dinosaur Museum...
The boys LOVED Growling at the exhibits!!!
And they loved touching petrified Dinosaur Poop.
Perfect photo op...
... making footprints in the sand
triceratops skull
Grey had no fear sticking his head in it's mouth,
Luke on the other hand had to be coaxed a little.
This wonderful little museum, is very small, and
has a gift shop right outside the exhibit room.
After viewing the exhibits, and then doing a little
souvenir shopping, the ladies working
at the counter told my Dad that they could hear
all the "Growling" the boys were doing
and got the biggest kick out of it.

As we were leaving Tucumcari, Dad stopped to
show the boys some of the Incredible
Artwork that is ALL over this little town.
These Amazing Murals grace the
sides of many a building.

The Artists...
Soooo talented!!

A couple of random windmills
I captured driving by...
Panoramic view of the Village of Logan.
Before heading home, Dad took us here...
for Ice Cream!

Had a quiet evening at home...
more opportunity for photo taking...
A couple of souvenirs from the morning's adventures.
trying to get a "brother" shot for Grandma.
more random beauty from around
my parents property...
Papa and his boys...
Another storm was brewing that evening, so no sunset...
... but even though the storm clouds were blocking
the view of the sunset, the sun was still able
to shine above the clouds and reflect this
amazing light on the storm clouds to the east.

JULY...
( Day 1 )

I was So Excited to go on this trip
to New Mexico for two reasons...
First, I hadn't seen my parents in over
a year, so I was really looking forward
to spending time with them,
and for them to spend time with their Grandsons.
Second, now that I am all about
photography, I was anxious to
view this beautiful place that my parents live
through the lens of my camera.

First morning there,
I was up before dawn to capture
this beautiful sunrise...
Then once everyone was up, and had eaten
breakfast, I ventured outside with my camera...
The view to the west from behind the house.
As I took the above photo, I was standing next
to this antique.  My dad has had
this truck since I was in high school.
My parents have an amazing variety
of beautiful desert plant life all over their property.
First of all, just like back in Indiana, at the
house I grew up in, my Mother has
Beautiful roses.
Red Yucca
Native Yucca Seed Pods
Desert Willow... about to be pollinated
Russian Sage
Apache Plume
Texas Sage
There are quite a few of these lassos
around the house, that have been given
to them by some local cowboys.
the front porch
I have no idea what the heck this bug is,
but it was HUGE - like 3" long... YIKES!!

Our first full day there, we decided to
spend the morning on the water.
Landscapes around the boat launch.
the boys waited patiently on the doc while
Grandpa got the boat in the water.

the water is an amazing color,
and the sky just goes on and on and on

The boys looks so cute in their little life jackets.
Papa let them both drive the boat
Then it was time to go tubing...
The first time out, Luke was so Brave and
went all by his self.
After tubing for just a little while,
we went into this little cove and dropped
anchor.  The boys and I got out
to go exploring.
Of course, I always have my camera with me.
Love this random, abandoned inner tube,
and the dead, bleached out trees.
Then it was back to some more tubing...
Grey's expression here, does not
show how much Fun he really had.
This time, when it was Luke's turn,
he insisted that I needed to come with him.
He had WAY more fun this time.
This picture was taken by my Mom, and I
absolutely LOVE the accidental
composition of it.
Another great accidental composition shot.
Love Luke's expression of Pure Joy.
I'm sure, his little giggle could be heard for miles.
Grey took his job VERY Seriously!
Ahhhh..... Vacation!

While growing up, this Dinner Bell
hung right outside our back door.
Until this trip, I had never know the history of this Bell.
My Dad told me that this Dinner Bell was originally
owned to his Great Grandparents, who owned a farm
back in Indiana.  His Great Grandmother would ring it
to call her husband and the farm hands,
from the fields, for meals.
The last time she rang it, was when my Father's
Great Grandfather passed away.
It was not rung again until, my Father's
Grandmother gave it to our family, and my
Mother rang it to call my sister and I in
for dinner... some forty years later.

There was a much needed thunderstorm this evening,
so the sunset wasn't very brilliant...
but beautiful, none the less.
