*WARNING... this post may not be suitable for all audiences.
This morning started out as any other Wednesday morning. I got up before the boys so I could take a shower, while Marc was still snoozing in a little. When I got out of the shower, I could hear the boys were up.
Over the course of the next 30 minutes, this is what happened.
I could hear Luke continually saying something about a mouse. When I opened the door to their room, the wicker storage box that is stored under the crib, has been slid out to the middle of the room, and Luke is pointing under the crib and saying there is a mouse. I bend down and peer under the crib and see a terry-cloth sports wrist band near the baseboard. I think... "how cute, he's using his imagination and is pretending it's a mouse". I then go back to getting ready. Then I hear..."wittle mouse, where awe you?". Marc hears it too, and asks me if there really is a mouse. I say no, they're just pretending. At one point, Luke comes in our bedroom, and I ask Luke what the mouse looks like. He says... " it's weal small", and bends down to show me the size. He then goes back in his room, and I continue to get ready. Then we hear both boys excitedly squealing about the mouse. We can hear Grey jumping up and down in the crib. Eventually, I'm dressed, and Marc is getting up at about this same time. He heads into the boys room before I can get there, to get Grey out of his crib to change his diaper... and I hear him say... "the boys weren't kidding. There's a mouse in here".
I come into the room behind and Marc, and sitting in the middle of the rug, is this...

It's just sitting there. Don't mice usually hide? It slowly moves to under the rocking chair, and I tell Marc he has to catch it. I tell him, I think it will be easy because it appears to be injured and not moving to quickly (obviously, because it's not hiding). I tell him he can't kill it... the boys can't see something like that. So while he's getting something to "catch" it with, I get Grey out of the crib and put the boys in their chairs at the dining room table. Marc goes in with a broom and a dust pan. He yells out... "No, it's at full speed!" I can hear him trying to swat it and pin it with the broom. Then he tells me to bring him a paper plate. I take one to him, and as I'm handing it to him, I look over his shoulder and can see that he has the mouse trapped under the dust pan - it's little tail is sticking out. He used the paper plate to scoop it up and carry it outside. As he's walking to the front door, he tells me there is a little blood on the rug. He didn't think he killed it, but he wasn't sure. But as he threw it over the deck railing, he commented that if it wasn't dead already, it would be when a bird got a hold of it.
I attempted to clean up the "scene of the accident", but a stain was left behind.
After dropping Luke off at school, I came home and set up this little scene for photo purposes only.

Who would have thought, that I would have to replace the boy's white rug because of an unfortunate accident. I would have guessed spilled juice or paint.
The sad thing, is that Marc thought that maybe our little visitor was pregnant due to it being fatter than usual. That would maybe explain why it wasn't running and hiding.
To our little visitor, if you survived being hit with a broom, being thrown of the deck, and not being caught by a bird.... we're sorry for all the trauma you endured this morning. If you did not survive... we're deeply sorry and may you Rest In Peace.

Poor little mama mousie! But one does what one must, and she did kinda start it by coming into your space...
omg that is hilarius. Yea I have been in your shoes before. YOu can't stand the little creatures but then you feel so bad for them. Lucien found a momma and little babies and they were outside. The momma was dead and well I am a good Mommy but I was not nursing sick baby mice back to health :) They did not last too long and Lucien made me bury them and them say a prayer for them. The sweetness in little boys. He was so heartbroken. If I had set up a crime scene for that people would have said,Wow they must live in New Orleans.LOL
